Once when I was in the 3rd grade, my art teacher (who was a nun) gave me a C in Art. I was a serious “straight A” third grader and so my mom went in to argue with a nun about an art grade.
Her argument was that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. I used to think that’s true but now I am not so sure (Side note: I pulled an all-nighter for school last night so I’m super cranky).
Some things are ugly. Any way you slice it, they aren’t gonna resemble anything beautiful. At church last week Pastor Bruce spoke about not marginalizing our beliefs to make them “milder” in order to get favor with others.
Some things are ugly and evil. I recently stopped reading news online because (1) it’s sad and (2) I accidentally went to a site where they showed a picture of one of the recent beheadings. Violence is ugly. Killing is ugly. There is no beauty in it.
