Imagine we lived in a world that’s all of a sudden devoid of color, but where you’re given the option to have just one object keep its original hue. Which object (and which color) would that be?
Remember in “The Giver” when you realized that their world had no color? When I read that book, I was blown away by the concept.
I’m still blown away by it. Our world is not meant to be black and white. Can you miss something that you never knew existed? In the case of color, I think so. Case in point: this picture from a recent camping trip.
I was talking to one of my friends about this sunset while we watched it. Humans have made a lot of beautiful things but they all pale in comparison to what God made. Human creations are so pale in comparison that they don’t even represent a full percentage point of the beauty of the world and the universe.
So, if I had to pick one thing to not lose color in a colorless world, I’d choose the sun at sunset. If I had to live in a black and white world, I’d hate it. But just maybe, if the sunset was the only thing in color, we’d all remember to appreciate the daily miracle that is the sunset.
